Develop Bubble Tea Drinks

Boba teas have been popular in Asia since the 1980s when a teahouse owner put tapioca balls in tea and the original concept was born. There are many different names for the drink, boba tea, bubble tea, pearl tea, etc…

The Bubble Tea market has been booming in the last few years in Western cultures. New bubble tea shops open everywhere, and new, more creative flavours and combinations appear. Making bubble tea that lasts could easily become the new hype on the RTD market.

Knowing about all the new options and opportunities, the question arises, why are they so few canned boba drinks out there? Many of the existing canned boba are only available in Asian stores or on Amazon and their taste can’t even come close to the exciting, freshly made versions.

If we examine the concept of boba, the balls are the soul of the drink. When it’s made fresh, they usually cook the solid balls and soak them in a sweet liquid (sugar syrup is the most common). The balls are always made fresh and can’t even be kept in the fridge for too long, trust me, I’ve tried it at home. The next day they became hard and nothing like you wanted to have in a glass of boba. Solid balls can be used both with milk teas or fruit syrups.

We have tried a few of them already and, however, the liquids tasted decent, the bubbles, from the taste and texture aspect, were far from excellent. I would rather say they were dull and tasteless.

The popping balls are usually made in factories, fruity bubble shells with liquid inside to make them even more refreshing and exciting. These are combined with teas (usually no milk, however, suitable flavours can be used for milk like honey) or fruit syrups.

Eternitea

Brand Relations was approached by the client to develop a drink that could be successful in the UK market. With no brief just the funding to develop the brand, after several months of research we decided that the biggest opportunity was in Collagen Drinks, Zero Sugar and based on Moringa Tea.

Afria

Afria is a refreshing blend of fruits and Bitters inspired by the Nigerian Chapman cocktail. The Chapman is a renowned celebratory drink which originated from Lagos, Nigeria in the 1930’s. Chapman is certainly a drink for the sweet palette, but we understand the importance of healthy options for both alcohol and non-alcohol drinkers. We have adapted this traditional drink into a healthier alternative by combining natural fruit juices, stevia and bitters to achieve a balanced level of sweetness. A-Free-Ah any preservatives or nasties, this refreshing natural mix with Spring Water is a perfect alternative for alcohol any occasion and will transport your taste buds to West Africa where the original Chapman was founded.
